On Finding the Few (Platonically)
I struggle with making long term friends. I describe these long-term friends as people who share very deep values with me, who are comfortable around me and who challenge me, and also know how to have fun. I enjoy hanging out with these people and I want them to be a part of my life. Do they exist? I’m not sure. I think W., J., and E. are great friends, but they are in a different city, far far away. I don’t have those types of friends here (at UCLA).
I want to make some. I know I need to put myself out there and join clubs/organizations and all that, but I rather do other things. Are they not mutually exclusive? Can I meet these golden friends by chance?
I sometimes get depressed when I see a YouTube video J. made about college acceptances. He’s having fun with a bunch of his friends and they talk about all sorts of things, and I wish I had that.
I wonder if this is something that requires active pursuing or something that happens naturally. I don’t have too much faith in IEEE or the classes I’m in. I try to make small talk but nothing really grows out of that.
I’m not afraid of being alone, but I don’t want to go through life alone.
